Abstract
Symposium of Defocus Incorporated Ophthalmic lens in Myopia Control
 
Myopia is a global public health issue, and high myopia has long term retinal and ocular health consequences that affect quality of life. This symposium will discuss the principle of adopting myopic defocus in simultaneous vision approach to achieve myopia control, with evidence from animal studies. Based on the work from animal models and human studies, the design and optical performance of the Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segment (DIMS) lens will be presented.
 
A recent randomised clinical trial for myopia control using the DIMS spectacle lens showed significant retardation of myopia progression and axial elongation in myopic school children by 60%. Being a spectacle lens, the DIMS lens is an effective first line treatment for myopia control in clinic.
