Corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) utilises UV light and a photosensitizer to strengthen chemical bonds in the cornea.
Lately, this technique has been used widely in a bid to slow down the progression of various forms of corneal ectasias especially keratoconus. It has also been used as prophylaxis against postoperative ectasia in susceptible patients undergoing LASIK and SMILE refractive surgery. Some even used it as a treatment for infectious keratitis and bullous keratopathy.

This seminar will cover the background principle about CXL, its indications and contraindications, difference in treatment protocols for different types of corneal diseases/conditions and the clinical outcomes. Current limitations and future developments of CXL will also be discussed.
