Community Optometry Screening Service

HKSPO Community Partnership with Rhenish Church Grace School

The Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists (HKSPO) partnered with Rhenish Church Grace School to deliver an optometry screening service during the school’s “Community Day” on 14 December 2024 (Saturday). The service aimed to promote public awareness of eye health and the importance of regular eye examinations, while strengthening the community’s understanding of the professional role of optometrists in primary eye care.

The screening primarily served adult and older participants from the local community. HKSPO deployed a team of three registered optometrists (Part I) and seven optometry students. Prior to the event, the team conducted a site visit and coordinated the workflow with the school to ensure safe equipment setup and a smooth participant flow. A pre event briefing was also held with school staff and volunteers to facilitate on site coordination and support participants, including assistance with a short post screening questionnaire.

Screening components included
Distance and near visual acuity screening
Ocular alignment and strabismus checks
Intraocular pressure measurement
Basic assessment of anterior eye health and risk indicators of ocular conditions

If the screening results indicate possible visual or eye health concerns, our team will advise participants to arrange a more comprehensive optometric eye examination as early as possible. Participants may also use the “Find an Optometrist” function on our website to locate a suitable optometrist for further assessment and follow up.
