The Role of Allied Healthcare Professionals in Community-based Healthcare Symposium
The “The Role of Allied Healthcare Professionals in Community-based Healthcare Symposium,” jointly organized by the Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists (HKSPO), Hong Kong Physiotherapists’ Union (HKPU), and Hong Kong Radiographers’ Association (HKRA), was successfully held on 11 October 2025 at Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
Distinguished speakers shared their professional insights:
– Dr. Ken Wan (Optometrist) – Beyond Optical Correction: The Role of Optometry in Community Health
– Mr. George Wong (Physiotherapist) – From Prevention to Action: Physiotherapists’ Vital Role in the Community-based Healthcare
– Miss Melinda Choi (Radiographer) – Detecting the Invisible: Breast Imaging in Our Society
Guests of Honour included Dr. Pang Fei Chau, Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Health Bureau, and Dr. David Lam, Legislative Council Member (Medical and Health Services Functional Constituency).
The symposium fostered dialogue and collaboration among the three allied health professions, highlighting their shared vision in strengthening Hong Kong’s community-based primary healthcare. Moving forward, the organizers look forward to exploring future cross-disciplinary initiatives and co-management models to enhance patient care through closer professional partnership.
